FROM SMALL BEGINNINGS TO A BRIGHT FUTURE!

CEDO INC. is the first manufacturer of electrical garage door operators in Canada and a pioneer in the field of manufacturing garage door hardware since 1950.

With a buyout of assets in 1985, Mr. Pierre Juneau founds CEDOMATEC INC. Occupying a rented space of 10,000 square feet, CEDO immediately establishes itself as one of the leading manufacturers of garage door hardware in the province of Quebec. CEDO offers its products to installers and resale experts in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, wherein the name CEDO quickly becomes synonymous with quality. At the time, orders are placed using a phone and a catalogue - there are no sales representatives, although any garage door installer of Quebec province already knows of CEDO's hardware by reputation.

Sales are increasingly rapidly. Constant requests from customers for a steel garage door insulated with polystyrene push CEDO in manufacturing this type of door as of 1987. The rental of a 40,000 square feet plant then becomes necessary. This new garage door is named CEDOTHERM SERIES C 3000, combining the words "CEDO" and "thermal", and grows to be a customer's favourite within a two year period.

As with any garage door, no matter how good its insulation is, its energetic efficiency also relies on its sectional joint's insulation. This has Cedomatec's President, Mr. Pierre A. Juneau, conceive and patent a new type of male/female joint, exclusive to CEDO, with thermal breaks in three distinct areas to prevent any infiltration and guarantee maximum waterproofness. This product has become very popular with installation experts for several reasons, especially for its simplicity. The joints overlap perfectly and a single man can now install a door, instead of the two usually needed. Furthermore, the joint has an integrated weather strip. It goes without saying: the newly patented sectional joint has created an unprecedented seal.

In 1990, with home renovation booming, the need for a garage door with superior insulation becomes pressing. To fulfil this need, CEDO develops two new models of garage door, the PROGRESSIVE SERIES C 5000 in galvanised steel, and the la F-1 SERIES C 7000 in aluminium , both models with polyurethane insulation, these two doors allowing CEDO to bring the highest insulation R-factor on the market.

Research and development, under Mr. Juneau's supervision, leads CEDO into developing new manufacturing processes. Instead of using the common technique of high pressure polyurethane injection, which has the polyurethane subject to turbulence, CEDO creates an automatic polyurethane lay-down system controlled by computer, in order to avoid bubbling of the polyurethane which weakens the panel's structural rigidity and lowers its insulation factor.

But once again, due to the consumers' great demand, there is a shortage of space and CEDO, through one of its affiliated companies, acquires the building where its plant is located and reorganises its equipment to streamline production line and shipping functions. In 1993, while production is still increasing, a new building at the back of the original plant is bought for some of CEDO's manufacturing activities. This allows the company to start manufacturing torsion springs, which proves to be very profitable since this type of spring is very difficult to find on the market.

In the same year, Mr. Pierre Juneau decides to explore European markets, which by the end of 1994 creates a most interesting potential. Sales in those markets have grown ever since and have enabled CEDO to increase production during slack season. The quality of CEDO doors is acknowledged throughout Europe. In just a few months, orders are flowing in from Greece, France, Belgium, Iceland, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Italy, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Cedomatec is shipping its several door models by the container to these overseas clients.

Although polyurethane insulation is already quite superior to anything else offered on the market, a new formula without CFC and with a R-17,09 insulation factor is now used for all our CEDO steel or aluminum doors insulated with polyurethane. All the necessary features are now in place to make of CEDO the best door available on the market and the most energy-efficient of all.

In 1997, the demands of European and American markets force CEDO into finding a new plant to satisfy its ever-increasing need for space and to make room for new equipment required to meet global expansion towards these international markets. Cedomatec moves to Repentigny, a Montreal suburb, in a much larger plant (180,000 sq. feet), more adequately designed, with new equipment adapted to the needs of the targeted markets. The company's move to Repentigny also allowed Cedomatec to attract new partners and distributors.

CEDO is in the process of becoming a major player on the international markets and has passed all steps of development with flying colours In order to remain at the forefront of progress in the garage door industry, nationally and internationally, CEDO constantly pursues research, promising a bright future. The vision of a leader, Mr. Pierre A. Juneau, founder and president of Cedomatec inc., surrounded by dynamic team members, has created a niche for Quebec into the new global market.
