Q - My garage is not insulated. Should I opt for a garage door with or without insulation?

INSULATION
Q - What is the difference between polystyrene and polyurethane?
A - Polystyrene and polyurethane are the two most commonly used insulating material when it comes to insulated garage doors. Both products, equally used by CEDO, are CFC11-free and totally safe for the environment. Following is the comparison between these two products :
- Polystyrene comes in a solid state and is moulded to suit the needs of the garage door industry. As for the polyurethane, it comes as a foam. CEDO designed an exclusive process : polyurethane foam is applied with an automated lay-down system and a short curing time, which fills the panel thoroughly and prevents the occurrence of air pockets. The use of this particular process, a CEDO exclusive, results in a sturdier panel structure. Comparatively, the most commonly used foam injection process is prone to causing the “Swiss cheese effect”, the presence of air pockets in the insulating foam lowering the panel rigidity and insulation factor.
- Regarding energetic efficiency, polyurethane wins over polystyrene. Our door model Cedotherm Series C3000 offers R-8 insulating factor while our polyurethane door models show the highest factor at R-17.09, making of CEDO the best insulated garage door!
- Delaminating : air pockets in the polyurethane foam might cause door panels to delaminate, but this is greatly reduced by CEDO’s exclusive polyurethane lay-down process. As a preventive measure, we strongly advise you against choosing a dark door colour if the garage door subject to long hours exposure in direct sunlight. As for polystyrene, quality of the gluing process in an important factor when considering delaminating of door panels. CEDO uses contact cement full panel pasting process, which makes panels a lot more resistant to delaminating. Furthermore, CEDO polystyrene panels have double anchoring brackets which fasten inner and outer steel overlays very securely.
A - A garage door energetic efficiency will depend of the insulating material of course, but also of the inter panel joints, of the inter panel weather strip and of the weather strip at the door perimeter. Q - What other factors should be considered regarding panel insulation?

Q - Is CEDO doors’ outer coating rustproof?
A - Aluminium is rustproof and anti-corrosive. And CEDO uses galvanised hot dipped steel. These two metals are both pre painted with 3 to 5 coats of baked enamels, according to door models, which add up to their resistance to rust and corrosion. Furthermore, all steel hardware components are made of G60 hot dipped galvanised steel, providing an improved protection against rust.
HARDWARE
Q - I am considering replacing my old garage door. Do you advise I keep the old hardware?
A- The wisest choice is to replace the hardware and tracks at the same time you change the garage door. This way, your installation will be fully covered by warranty and your hardware will be properly adjusted to the new door weight. For a given size, the weight of a garage door will vary according to door model. It is inadvisable to keep the old hardware when getting a new garage door. Very often, certain make of garage door will call for a specific hardware type.

But you can get different sets of tracks regarding particular needs due to garage dimensions. Following are different type of tracks available regarding specific needs :
- Low headroom tracks (where space between top of door and ceiling is inferior to standard headroom measurements provided above - will also differ according to spring type).
- Hi-lift tracks (when there’s lots of space between the top of garage door and garage ceiling but you prefer a door standing horizontally when open).
- Vertical lift tracks (when there’s lots of space between the top of garage door and garage ceiling and you opt for a vertical opening of your garage door).
- Tracks following the roof slope (when garage ceiling has a definite angle in the slope and that you prefer the garage door to follow that angle during opening).
- A professional garage door installer will present you with the different track options available according to your garage characteristics.
A - Steel rollers have a built-in ball bearing system. The usual garage door industry standard is using 7 steel ball bearings for a steel roller. CEDO steel roller is made of a 10 steel ball bearing system, which provides a quieter operation of the garage door.
